Hello Everyone,
Coming off of a huge win against Sac State, I’d like to introduce myself to the Aggie Rugby faithful. I am Maxwell Burns, your captain, and I am honored to have served as this team's captain over the last quarter and to continue for the rest of the season.
Like many captains before me, I had never touched a rugby ball until I got here. Originally from Washington, DC, I knew almost nothing about the game until Natan Allouche convinced me to come to my first practice. Once I got in the door, I fell in love with the game, and there was no looking back.
Last season was undeniably disappointing; one win is not enough for a program with our history. We have already equaled that win total, but I, and this team, are striving for much more. We will fight hard in every game and leave it all on the field. With that effort, and our improved organization and tactics, I’m confident results will follow.
Additionally, this club is about the development of not just players, but of men. During the fall, I had the privilege of playing touch with some of the members of the 2015 and 2016 national championship winners, and it is clear the effect this program has had on them a decade after college. I’m proud to be a product of that same system, shaped by many mentors before me, and committed to mentoring younger players and building a culture that catalyzes growth both on and off the field.
Thank you, fans, friends, and family, for your continuous support of our team and players. I hope you have a happy holiday season and are looking forward to the gauntlet of games we have coming up this winter quarter.
Go Aggies,
Maxwell Burns
